The month of June is one of only two months out of the year that has the luxury of claiming not one but three different stones as its birthstone: pearl, alexandrite, and the moonstone. Although all three stones are beautiful, each has its own individual metaphysical and spiritual properties, today, we will focus on the moonstone.
The moonstone is a feldspar mineral and displays a pearly, opalescent sheen. It is considered the most valuable stone of the feldspar family and is most commonly coveted in its extraordinary blue hue. However, its colors can range from creamy white to pinks, peaches, yellows, and grays.
These stones, like all other gemstones, contain healing characteristics. The healing properties are due to each gem’s unique vibrational frequency and can be used to address specific areas of concern.
Some of the healing properties of the moonstone include:
Calming fears about the unknown
Balancing emotional states
Inspiring passion, creativity, and direction in one’s life
Opening a person’s intuition
Relaxing a person’s mind and body
Supporting wisdom and knowledge to make decisions
Using the Moonstone to awaken your Divine Feminine
Because moonstone is considered a feminine stone it is seen to be connected with the lunar cycle controlling a woman’s menstrual cycle. As a result, it’s often used to address female ailments, including premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms, bloating and pain experienced during the menstrual cycle, and it can help facilitate fertility, pregnancy, and childbirth.
In addition to healing properties, the moonstone is also believed to have other metaphysical properties as well. In ancient times, the moonstone was said to be able to elicit deep passion between lovers. It was also thought to give the wearer the ability to predict the future. The moonstone is also believed to offer the owner great fortune. Ancient Romans and Greeks believed the moonstone was created from bits of the actual moon. They saw the moonstone as having revitalizing and deeply transformative healing properties.
The moonstone crystal is the symbol of the inner goddess and can be used to help nurture our loving, sensual, and sexual sides. A gem for intuition, balance, and wishes, moonstone helps utilize and awaken the feminine part of our human duality. It can aid in distinguishing what is merely needed in life versus what is wanted. Wearing or carrying a moonstone can help to increase your intuitiveness and help you listen more closely to your inner voice.
When using your moonstone, try to fall into the rhythm of nature and the constant give and take of daily existence. In other words, let things happen naturally. Your moonstone is a reminder not to continually overthink and rationalize, but to go deep within your hidden inner knowledge and seek your answers. Always trust that it will guide your heart towards light and love, the medicine to heal the world.
